India Engages Youth on World Sports Journalists’ Day

World Sports Journalists’ Day, 2 July 2025, marked by the Indian Pierre de Coubertin Association
Since 2018, a distinguished tradition has been observed in collaboration with the Indian Pierre de Coubertin Association to commemorate World Sports Journalists’ Day. This observance includes the engagement of national journalists and aspiring students, who are invited to participate meaningfully in the event. We express our profound appreciation to Dr. Umakant Singh, our member in India, for his exemplary leadership in advancing this initiative. In addition, Umakant Singh is developing a one-year project on the media and Olympism with his students at the Government Girls College in Vaidan.
The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) was established on 1 July 1924 in Paris, on the eve of the opening ceremony of the eighth Olympic Games, presided over by Pierre de Coubertin. De Coubertin, himself a prolific journalist, authored approximately 1,300 articles for nearly 70 French and international publications. He was also among the founding members of AIPS, listed second on its original register.
In the previous year, the centenary of AIPS was commemorated during the Olympic Games in Paris. AIPS is an organization officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is dedicated to safeguarding the collective interests of sports journalists globally. Its principal objective is to ensure the highest standards of professional working conditions within the field.
