Tribute to Pierre de Coubertin: Cultural and Spiritual Concert

Cathedral of Lausanne, 14 January 2020 on the occasion of 3rdWinter Youth Olympic Games
This concert offered works of two great French composers-organists, contemporaries of Coubertin, Charles-Marie Widor and Louis Victor Vierne, most notable for their organ symphonies. Their music honored the famous organ of the cathedral of Lausanne.
Extract of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony was also played, Coubertin’s favorite piece.
The topic of the event was brotherhood of men, so dear to the founder of the modern Olympic Games.
Between musical pieces there were recitations of Coubertin’s texts with his vision of the basic values of sport and its contribution to human development.
At the end, the culmination of the event was the playing of the Olympic Anthem by the organ of the 13thcentury Lausanne cathedral followed by the French mezzo-soprano Marielou Jacquard.The IOC President, Thomas Bach, attended the event and was accompanied by some IOC members
