50 years of fulfilling our mission to reveal Pierre de Coubertin’s person and philosophy. To explain the real reason why he believed in sport and in the renovation of the ancient Olympic Games. Today we celebrate the years of growth, challenges and achievements. It is a time not only to remember the past, but also to inspire for the future. We came together to celebrate this great man who has united the youth of the world through their participation in the Olympic Games.

Our 50th anniversary event took place at the heart of the Olympic Movement, the Olympic Museum in the Olympic City Lausanne. We were joined by our members of the Board who represent all continental regions.

Our special guest of honor, the IOC President Thomas Bach paid tribute to the work of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee: “The idea that sport is universal and serves a higher purpose for all human beings was central to the thinking of Pierre de Coubertin. For half a century, the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee has been at the forefront to promote the study of Coubertin’s work and vision. This impressive global network of historians, scholars, researchers and educators – all of you are a truly unique community of experts on Coubertin. Through your dedication to research, analysis and documentation, you ensure that Coubertin’s Olympic vision continues to resonate across generations and around the world.”

In his speech, our President, Stephan Wassong, emphasised that today we’re honouring the roots of our Institution and highlighted the development and progress we’ve made since we started. His remarks were a reflection of the remarkable journey of the institution and its contributions to education.

Over the past half century, the IPCC has become a cornerstone of academic excellence in all areas related to Pierre de Coubertin. Our programmes have constantly evolved to meet the dynamic needs of the Olympic movement.  Our experts, experienced academics, have played a pivotal role in producing publications that impart knowledge about Pierre de Coubertin and his philosophy.

Legacy and excellence are a tribute to the high standards and achievements of our institution over the years. Its history is one of exceeding expectations and setting benchmarks. We thank the International Olympic Committee for their continued support and trust.
