Olympic Studies Seminar – Mexico – Lince Olympic Studies Centre, 29 October 2024

For the third year in a row, the Lince Olympic Studies Centre of the Autonomous University of the West (Mexico) held its Virtual Seminar on Olympic Studies, which was attended by a large number of students and interested parties from different academic fields, in the presence of the Rector of the University, Dr. Pedro Flores Leal, and the Director of the Olympic Studies Centre, Dr. Hussein Muñoz Helú.

Three members of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee took part in the Virtual Seminar on Olympic Studies and presented the following research:

Daniel de la Cueva, President of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Argentina, directed the first module of this programme entitled “LIFE AND WORK OF BARON PIERRE DE COUBERTIN”.

He lectured on :

The life of Pierre de Coubertin. Biographical data.

Coubertin’s thoughts and proposals.

Coubertin’s work and actions.

The Legacy of Pierre de Coubertin.

The criticisms of Pierre de Coubertin.

Carlos Hernández Schafler, President of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Mexico, presented a paper entitled: Growth and expansion of the Olympic movement.

Pedro Danilo Ponciano, President of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Guatemala presented his research on the modern reading of Pierre de Coubertin: The Modern Olympic Influences.

Daniel de la Cueva also noticed that there was still a considerable lack of knowledge about Pierre de Coubertin, not only among the students, but also in the academic society. In addition, this lack of knowledge offered a space for unfair criticism that had been expressed about Pierre de Coubertin in the press in 2024. His suggestion was that these criticisms should be countered by the provision of more information and knowledge about Coubertin. This seminar is an example of a very important incentive that provided qualitative information on the importance of the history of sport, its origins in ancient Greece and the Olympic Games held in Mexico in 1968.
