India: Young girls empowerment, gender equality and journalism 2025

Dr Uma Kant, a member of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee, has undertaken a project on “Women Empowerment and Gender Equality”. This project will be developed throughout the year. The project involves a series of theoretical and practical journalism classes at the Government Girls College, Vaidan. In addition to sports activities, lectures are given for 3 different media segments: print (Danik bhaskar), television and radio (urja rajdhani) for one week in March, concluding with a one-day workshop. Young girls are given the opportunity to speak on the radio and interact directly with the community. The educational programme based on the Olympic values developed by the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee is disseminated by the young students themselves.
In March 2025, the collaboration was developed, with radio stations reaching out to people living in remote villages to talk about how they live and discuss the problems they face.
