Meeting of the presidents of the national Pierre de Coubertin committees of Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay
Guatemala City, October 9
On the evening of October 9, in Guatemala City, the presidents of the eight Latin American Pierre de Coubertin Committees gathered for a historic meeting. For the first time, all countries with active committees in the region were represented, marking a milestone in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CIPC).
During the event, IPCC Vice President Nelson Todt emphasized the importance of the work carried out by the Latin American Center for Coubertin Studies (CLEC), and acknowledged the steadfast support of CIPC President Stephan Wassong and Secretary General Elvira Ramini in strengthening and expanding these initiatives.
Daniel de la Cueva, CIPC Delegate for Latin America, highlighted the increasing quality and impact of the events organized in recent years and reaffirmed the renewed commitment of all CLEC members to remain united and determined in advancing the reach of the Coubertin movement throughout the region.
In turn, Danilo Ponciano, President of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Guatemala, expressed his honor in hosting the 5th Latin American Pierre de Coubertin Symposium and conveyed his hope that the event would further promote values-based education across Latin America.
The meeting also addressed plans for the development of new Pierre de Coubertin Schools in the region, as well as future collaborative actions to expand activities related to Olympic values education.
The inauguration of the V Latin American Pierre de Coubertin Symposium entitled “Values-Based Education and Olympism”, is taking place today at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala—one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Latin America—and will bring together representatives from the National Pierre de Coubertin Committees of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay, along with more than 300 students, academics, and professionals connected to the field of sport.
