Happy International Olympic Day 2026
Message of the President of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee
On the occasion of International Olympic Day, the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee joins the Olympic community throughout the world in commemorating the foundation of the modern Olympic Movement and in honouring the enduring legacy of Pierre de Coubertin, whose vision continues to inspire generations across nations and cultures.
For our institution, 23 June is not merely a date of remembrance. It is a solemn occasion that calls us to reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment. It reminds us that the Olympic Movement was conceived not only as a celebration of athletic achievement, but as a great educational and humanistic project placed at the service of humanity cultivating moral responsibility, fostering mutual respect and drawing peoples together in a spirit of peace and understanding.
Today, in a world marked by uncertainty, fragmentation and profound challenges, this message retains its full significance. The values that inspire Olympism, excellence, friendship, respect, solidarity and peace, remain a source of guidance that can contribute to a more just, humane and responsible society.
The International Pierre de Coubertin Committee remains deeply committed to carrying forward this educational and humanistic mission. Through its worldwide network of schools, committees and partners, and through its work with young people across continents, our institution seeks to ensure that Coubertin’s thought continues to illuminate the present and inspire the future. Olympism is a living legacy that calls each generation to responsibility.
On this International Olympic Day, I wish to address, with particular gratitude, all our members throughout the world, our schools, committees, colleagues and friends, whose dedication sustains and extends the educational mission entrusted to us. By your commitment, the ideals of Olympism continue to find expression in classrooms, communities and institutions, and continue to speak to the conscience of our time.
On behalf of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee, I extend to all our members and friends my most sincere wishes for International Olympic Day 2026. May the spirit of Olympism continue to enlighten minds and unite peoples in the shared task of building a more peaceful, more dignified and more humane world.
