International Olympic Academy celebrating the inauguration of its renovated premises and the lightening of the Olympic Flame for 24^th Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022

The 60^th anniversary of the International Olympic Acandemie (IOA) was celebrated with a festive and academic programme on 17^th and 18^th October 2021. The International Pierre de Coubertin Committee was presented by its President, Prof. Stephan Wassong, who is also a member of the Olympic Education Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and was one of many academic guests. All the guests had an opportunity to appreciate the completion of the extensive renovation of the IOA, which successfully finished after two years of work thanks to the support of the IOC. 

Another important ceremony took place in Olympia, this time at the ancient site of the Olympic Games. In the presence of the IOC President, Thomas Bach, and the members of the IOC Executive Board, the Olympic Flame was lit for the 24^th Olympic Winter Games, Beijing 2022, and the Olympic Torch Relay was initiated by a Greek athlete.
