The International Pierre de Coubertin Committee celebrates today with the French people and the athletes of the world the Opening Ceremony of the 33rd Olympiad.

Today, in honour of Pierre de Coubertin, we are presenting the second edition of the book Pierre de Coubertin the Visionary by Jean Durry. It offers nine facets of Coubertin’s highly productive activities and unravels the different facets of Coubertin’s work: Coubertin the pedagogue, the educator, the organizer, the journalist, the writer, the historian, the aesthete, the organizer, the Olympian and Coubertin the humanist.

This book gives an overview of Coubertin’s works beyond the Olympic Games and discovers the wide range of Coubertin’s thoughts and initiatives. The first edition was published in 1994 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the International Olympic Committee. This second edition has been updated with new information discovered since then and honours the 100th anniversary of the Olympic Games held in Paris in 1924. The second edition helps us to underline how the visions of Pierre de Coubertin remain timeless and relevant today.
