“Japan Pierre de Coubertin Youth Forum 2021” took place online on 25 and 26 December 2021 with the participation of 26 students and their teachers from 6 senior high schools.

This Forum was organized by the Japanese Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CJPC) in cooperation with the Olympic Education Platform (CORE) of the University of Tsukuba, Chukyo University, non-for-profit organization Salon 2002, Japan Olympic Academy (JOA), Research Department of Tokyo High School Sports Federation, and Tokai Gakuen University.

The two main objectives were: 1) to provide knowledge on Olympism and the Olympic Movement to senior high school students in Japan, and 2) to select participants for the 13th International Pierre de Coubertin Youth Forum that will take place in Cyprus, 2022.

The programme consisted of an opening introduction, four lectures, four workshops including group activities and discussion sessions at the Sports Museum, online exercise, and a closing ceremony. A special lecture “Tokyo 2020 – View from Australia” was given by Ms. Helen Brownlee AM, Board member of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (IPCC) and Vice-President of the Ausrtralian Olympic Committee, after which the students had a group discussion in English on the theme “What to tell high school students 50 years from now about the Tokyo 2020 Games”.

Despite the online nature of the event, participants were able to interact actively throughout the two-day programme and learn a great deal about Olympism and the Olympic Movement.
