“Pierre de Coubertin: Democratisation of sport and its values to build a better and more peaceful world”

The National Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Guatemala organised the panel “Pierre de Coubertin: Democratisation of sport and its values to build a better and more peaceful world” of the Convention on Social Innovation and Sustainable Development through Sport (ISD). The panel focused on the discussion of the pedagogical principles promoted by Pierre de Coubertin in today’s society and how social organisations pursue the construction of a better and peaceful world. Participating in the panel were Dr. Nelson Todt, Vice-President of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CIPC), Dr. Danilo Ponciano, President of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Guatemala (CPCG) with the founding members of the CPCG.

They all took part in an event held with children from the Escuela Oficial Luis Mena in Antigua Guatemala. Dr. Nelson Todt gave a talk on Coubertinian values to sixth grade students accompanied by members of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Guatemala. The members of the Youth Commission carried out physical and recreational activities to promote their importance in the improvement of the quality of life.At the end of his visit, on behalf of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee, Dr. Nelson Todt presented the book “Pierre de Coubertin 1863-1937: Olympism – Selected Writings” in the Spanish version to the Comité Pierre de Coubertin of Guatemala.
