National Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Tanzania latest activities
President of the Pierre de Coubertin Committee of Tanzania, Mr. Muharam Mchume, has been very active in organizing workshops and lectures on Pierre de Coubertin, his work and his life in May as well during the Olympic month of June 2024.
7 July – Tanzanian Pierre de Coubertin Committee celebrated the International Swahili Day
The President of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee, Stephan Wassong, sent a message to the President of the Tanzanian Pierre de Coubertin Committee, Mr. Muharam Mchume, on the 7th of July. He wished him and his colleagues a memorable celebration of the International Swahili Day, which has been proclaimed as the International Swahili Day by UNESCO and the African Union. We would like to remind our readers that Mr Mchume and his colleagues have translated the Olympic Memoirs of Pierre de Coubertin into the Swahili language and presented it on the 23rd of June 2023.
In her message to mark International Swahili Day, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, expressed her delight at the growth of Kiswahili. The President commended UNESCO and other local and international stakeholders.
In her speech, the President praised the efforts made since 2021 when UNESCO announced 7 July as Kiswahili Day. Kiswahili promotes unity, peace and solidarity in the world.
She further stressed: “We are proud of the Kiswahili language and as we celebrate this important day, we acknowledge the great contribution of all stakeholders in promoting and disseminating Kiswahili, which is now recognised regionally and internationally”.Song dedicated to the Swahili language and countries where it is spoken:

At the same time, President Wassong congratulated President Mchume for having received an official recognition from the governmental body, the Arts Council of Tanzania, for the dissemination of the works and visions of Pierre de Coubertin in the Swahili language to the local communities:

17-21 June – The Olympic week in Morogoro, Tanzania
Muharam Mchume was engaged by the Tanzanian Olympic Committee to be a lecturer at the sports administration course for 31 sports administrators. His lectures focused on the life and work of Pierre de Coubertin, on Coubertin’s idea of sport for peace and on the Olympic Truce concept adopted by the IOC in 1994 and celebrated since this date at each edition of the Games of the Olympiad and the Olympic Winter Games. This event was also an occasion to celebrate the 130 years of the Olympic Movement.

28 May – Workshop: “Law enforcement Olympic Torch Run” for police officers of Tanzania
This workshop was organised by Tanzanian Special Olympics Africa in the city of Dodoma. The President of the Tanzanian Pierre de Coubertin Committee, Muharam Mchume, lectured on Pierre de Coubertin and the Olympic Movement. The workshop included a training session conducted by an official from the neighbouring country of Kenya, Mr. Joel Mutua.
