16th International Symposium for Olympic and Paralympic Studies

The 16th International Symposium for Olympic and Paralympic Studies took place on 20 and 21 July 2024 under the title Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Olympic Games. Its host was the International Centre for Olympic Studies (ICOS) of Western University, Canada. The place of the venue was the University of Franche-Comté, located in Besançon, France. Prof. Angela Schneider from ICOS organized the symposium in collaboration with Prof. Eric Monnin, Vice-President of the University of Franche-Comté and Prof. Gilles Lecoq, involved in the Institut Catholique de Paris and Vice-President of the French Pierre de Coubertin Committee. The symposium took an interdisciplinary approach to Olympic Studies. From the side of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (IPCC), several members have contributed to the profile of the programme. To name just a few: Nelson Todt, Kostas Georgiadis, Eric Monnin, Ian Jobling, Jean-Loup Chappelet, Claudia Fernanda Rojas, Gary Rhodes, Daniel Quanz, Stephan Wassong, and Jean Durry. The symposium opened with a keynote address by Jean Durry, former IPCC Vice President and now President of Honour. He gave an inspiring speech entitled Pierre de Coubertin’s Vision. The IPCC was well represented by its members.
