The International Pierre de Coubertin Committee has the pleasure to present the translation into Swahili language of Pierre de Coubertin’s Olympic Memoirs.

This translation was carried out by Mr. Muharam Mchume, IPCC member in Tanzania and member of the Tanzanian Olympic Academy. The electronic edition is presented on the IPCC website on the Olympic Day, 23 June 2023. This translation has been certified by the government institution responsible for Swahili language in Tanzania, BAKITA.

Swahili is a native language in East-African communities: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. It is Lingua franca in Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia and Zambia and it is the official language of the African Union with 150 million Swahili speakers. International Swahili Day is celebrated every year on 7 July.

It is the first time that we are reaching these communities in their native language.
